“A daughter’s treasure is her mother, a mother’s sense of life is her daughter.”
With this fervour we started the workshop on ‘Mother-Daughter Hygiene’. This programme was organised in our school by ‘Proctor & Gamble’ for class VII girls on the topic of menstrual hygiene. The resource person Ms. Priya, executed the session in three parts.
From the first part of the session we got to know what is menstruation, when does it takes place and why. This session helped us to get away from our awkwardness that was reflected on our faces before the workshop.
The second part of the session was an eye opener as we got insights about how to use sanitary napkins. We were told that we should not use cloth .We understood that we should change the sanitary napkin after every 5 hours and we should change it 3 to 4 times in a day.
Last, but not the least, the final part of the session was full of heartwarming moments as we realised that our mothers are our best friends because they are the ones who know us very well, even better than our best friends. At the end of the workshop we showed our gratitude and love to our mothers by giving them a letter and a thank you card and also promised to become best friends. Our mothers were very happy after they saw the letters and thank you cards made by us. Our mothers realised the importance of discussing menstruation more openly with us.

A Parent’s Experience at the Workshop
I was very happy to know that Sharon English High School organised a program for ‘Mothers & Daughters’. I am very thankful to the principal and teachers for granting permission to Miss. Priya to conduct this program. She really helped all the young girls know more about the physical and emotional changes that a growing girl has to face. She patiently and clearly explained how to face these changes. Being a mother, I can understand that how moms feel to have a daughter. Before being a mom I too was a daughter. And I know every daughter is the dream of their mother. I kindly request all mothers to be connected and around their daughters during such changes. The best part of the program was when my daughter gave me the thank you card and letter she had prepared for me. It was very beautiful. She had written the letter from her heart…it was a very emotional moment for me. For every mom her daughter is the best and for every daughter her mother is the best.
